Aiming to shape the future of Port Jervis, about 40 people gathered at Howard Wheat Engine Company recently for a city comprehensive plan “visioning” meeting, organized by Mike Welti, senior land use planner at Barton and Loguidice.
The meeting was the last in a series before the Port Jervis Comprehensive Plan Committee takes the ideas gathered and finds ways to incorporate them in the city’s new comprehensive plan.
Speaking to the group, Welti noted the trends in cities.

Tree grant contributes to Port Jervis vision by Jessica Cohen / For the Gazette

Tree-consciousness in Port Jervis will soon get $50,000 in support from the 2016 Urban and Community Forest Grant Program of New York State Grants Gateway. The city received the award to do tree inventory and management, says Valerie Maginsky, executive director of the Port Jervis Community Development Agency. However, she wrote the grant application intending to also gainfully engage city youth.

Port Comprehensive Plan Heads Into Hearings by Ken Baumel

The Common Council recently hired Barton & Loguidice, architectural engineers and land-use planners, to develop the city’s Comprehensive Plan, the first in decades, and rewrite part of the Port Jervis City Code.
Last week, the firm, one of the 100 fastest growing planning firms in the nation, held the first public hearing at City Hall to gather input from the council-appointed committee that is working with the consultants on the plan development.
